Man enters into sham marriage for food stall licence

SINGAPORE - A Singapore man has been jailed six months for entering into a sham marriage with a Sri Lankan.

Suresh Ananthan s/o Chandran, 36, was at first promised $4,000 for the deal, but later accepted a food stall licence when the woman said she was unable to pay.

In a statement today (March 22), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that Suresh was introduced to Dematagoda Kankanamalage Ayesha Rathnamalie, 23, by a friend in April 2013.
